Charges filed against three Habiganj men

Prosecution at the International Crimes Tribunal-1 (ICT-1) yesterday pressed charges against three Habiganj men for allegedly committing crimes against humanity during the 1971 Liberation War.

A three-member panel of the ICT-1 led by Justice Md Shahinur Islam set June 4 to hold hearing whether it will take cognisance of the charges.

The accused -- Abul Khayer Golap Miah, 66, former chairman of Gojanaipur union; and Jamal Uddin, 65, and Gias Uddin, 70 -- are from Nabiganj upazila.

They were alleged members of Razakar Bahini.

Golap was arrested on April 12, 2017, and Jamal on November 23 the same year. Gias is still at large.

According to the prosecution, the three were accused of killing 17 people, raping six women, torching 25 houses, and abducting and torturing 30 people.
