Liverpool remain Real’s last executioner in a European final

Real Madrid are set to meet the club that last vanquished them in the final of the European Cup after the two prestigious clubs went through to the final of the Champions League.
The Spanish giants, who are on course to secure their 13th European Cup final have been beaten thrice in the final of the coveted tournament. The last time they were beaten in the final was on 27th May 1981, when an 82nd minute goal from Alan Kennedy handed victory to Liverpool.
“It was the last black night for Los Blancos,” Spanish news outlet Marca wrote.
Since that ‘black night’, Real Madrid won all six finals in the European Cup which is now known as the Champions League. Liverpool have won two finals since then, winning against Roma in 1984 and AC Milan in 2005. They have also lost twice in the finals of the European Cup since 1981 – in 1984 against Juventus and in 2006 against Milan.
Real Madrid will meet Liverpool in the Champions League final on May 27.
