Man beaten dead

A man who was beaten allegedly by his rivals at Char Bhawanipur village in Sadar upazila on Monday evening succumbed to his injuries at Mymensingh hospital at night.

The victim was identified as Abdul Kashem, 32, son of late Abul Hossain of the village.

Kotwali Police Station Officer-in-Charge (Investigation) Khandaker Shaker Ahmed said there had been a longstanding feud between the families of Kashem and his neighbour Alamgir Hossain over establishing supremacy in the area.

The rivals caught and assaulted Kashem at local Joybangla Bazar around 3:30pm on Monday, the OC said.

Later, they led by Alamgir took Kashem to a lonely place of Char Bhawanipur village where they beat him indiscriminately. At one stage, the attackers left Kashem in a critical condition in the evening, the OC added.

Hearing the scream of Kashem, locals informed the police about the matter.

Police took him to Mymensingh Medical College Hospital (MMCH) around 7:00pm where he succumbed to his injuries around 9:30pm, said OC Shaker.

The body was sent to MMCH morgue for autopsy.

Police early yesterday arrested Farhad Hossain, 32, and Abdul Mannan, 40, for their alleged involvement in the killing.

They were being interrogated at the police station as of filing this report.

Victim's brother Abul Kalam lodged a case with Kotwali Police Station accusing 20 people in this regard.
