Genocide Day observed by foreign missions
Bangladesh missions abroad yesterday observed “Genocide Day” together with Embassy officials, their families and the expatriate community.
As parts of the day's programme, the embassies organised various programmes, including observance of one minute silence recalling the valiant martyrs of 1971 followed by Holy recitations from religious books.
The messages of the President and Prime Minister issued on this occasion were also read besides discussions, screening of documentary and special prayers.
Press releases from different missions, including the Netherlands, Denmark, Poland, Saudi Arabia, Brazil, Austria, Vietnam, Uzbekistan, South Korea, permanent mission in New York, Bangladesh Consulate in Milan organised programmes marking Genocide Day.
Meanwhile, officers, employees of Bangladesh Embassy in Washington, their family members and the Bangladesh community observed the “Genocide Day” on Sunday commemorating the massacre in 1971.
They joined a candle light vigil and paraded in the embassy compound led by Bangladesh Ambassador to the USA Mohammad Ziauddin, demanding United Nations to recognize 25th March as Genocide Day, a press release from Washington said.
