Save water bodies
On March 21, The Daily Star published a front-page story titled “Mosquitoes farmed, in fact”. The report mentioned that several water bodies in Dhaka serve as the breeding grounds for mosquitoes. If the authorities can recover lost canals, connect them with each other to ensure smooth flow of water, and make sure that no one dumps waste in them, the mosquito problem can be solved to a large extent. Additionally, the water bodies will turn into recreational spots for the city-dwellers.
Barisal City Corporation, to its credit, has transformed the city's water bodies into recreational spots for the residents. Authorities in Dhaka and other major cities should follow suit.
