Tourist found dead in hotel

Senseless girl also rescued from the Kuakata hotel room

Police recovered the body of a young tourist and rescued an unconscious woman from a hotel room in Kuakata on Tuesday night.

The deceased, Md Jahidul Islam, 30, son of Hafizur Rahman of Sonadanga in Khulna, was a student of Khulna BL College, according to the hotel record.

Jahidul and the woman, aged 25, booked a room of Hotel Payra at Kuakata on Sunday, introducing themselves as couple and their room was locked since Tuesday noon, said Mizanur Rahman, OC of Mohipur Police Station.

Not getting any response from inside the room, the hotel authority informed police who broke opened the room around 10:30pm and brought the two to 20-bed Kuakata Hospital where the on-duty doctor declared Jahidul dead, said the OC.

The senseless girl was then sent to Kalapara Upazila Health Complex while Jahidul's body was sent to Patuakhali General Hospital morgue to autopsy.

“I think the man and woman took high doses of sleeping pills,” said Md Moniruzzaman, medical officer of Kuakata Hospital.

“We seized shells of over a hundred of pills named Promitzine and Clonazepam from the hotel room,” the OC said.

Around 11:00pm, a man from Khulna made a call to Jahidul's mobile and the OC received it.

The man identifying himself as Riad said he is a friend of Jahidul and the latter's nickname is Bandhon.

Jahidul, a degree student of BL College in Khulna, was also serving at a drug healing centre in the town, Riad said.

He could not tell anything about the girl.

“Preparations are on for taking lawful step regarding the matter. We will know more when the girl gets well,” the OC said.
