A Dhaka court yesterday sentenced three youths to death and three others got life imprisonment for killing Md Arefin Abedin Khan, alias Rajon, a businessman in 2015.

The death row convicts are: Md Mostafizur Rahman, Md Zahangir Hossain Joy and Md Alamgir Dhali while Md Masud Ahmed Emon, Md Nazmul and Md Niamot got life term.

Judge SM Kuddus Zaman of the District and Sessions Judge's Court of Dhaka handed down the the sentence in presence of Alamgir and Emon, while the others are absconding.

Rajon's father Joynal Abedin expressed satisfaction and urged the government to arrest the fugitives and execute the verdict. 

According to the case, Mostafiz and Zahangir were employed at the deceased Rajon's electronics shop in the city's Kaptan Bazar area.

The duo misappropriated total Tk 35 lakhs given to them to buy goods for the shop and submitted fake vouchers to their employer.

Rajon discovered their misdemeanour and demanded the money, which they refused to return and the trio locked into an altercation.

Later, on October 13, 2015, four men hired by Mostafiz and Zahangir killed Rajon at Keraniganj and dumped the body into a canal, the case statement said.

Police recovered Rajon's body from Keraniganj the next day and a case was filed with Dakkhin Keraniganj Police Station in this regard.

Police arrested Mostafiz, Joy, Alamgir and Emon and they confessed to the killing.
