2 more cases filed against Mahmudur

Two sedition cases were filed against Mahmudur Rahman, acting editor of Bangla daily Amar Desh, in Dinajpur and Kurigram yesterday.

Bringing sedition charges against Mahmudur, a case was filed in Dinajpur for his "derogatory remarks" against Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman and his granddaughter Tulip Siddiqui, also a British lawmaker. 

In Dinajpur, a lawyer, Shamsur Rahman Parvez, also law affairs secretary of Khansama upazila AL unit, filed the case with Chief Judicial Magistrate’s Court of Bishwanath Mondal.

Another unidentified man was also made accused in the case, reports our Dinajpur correspondent.

The court ordered police to look into the matter and submit a report to the court on December 28.

Redwanur Rahman, officer-in-charge of Dinajpur Sadar Police Station, said they were yet to get any papers from the court. They will start inquiry after getting the court order, he added.

In Kurigram, another sedition case was filed with Chief Judicial Magistrate Court against Mahmudur.

Advocate Lutfor Rahman, law affairs secretary of Rajibpur upazila Awami League unit, filed the case seeking Tk 2,000 crore in damages. The court then directed the officer-in-charge of Kurigram Sadar Police Station to record the case, our Kurigram correspondent reports.

Mahmudur Rahman also made "derogatory remarks" on Bangabandhu and Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina while was speaking at a programme at National Press Club on December 1, according to the case.

Earlier, on November 7, accusing Mahmudur of “making derogatory comments” on Bangabandhu and prime minister, an Awami League leader of Natore filed a case seeking Tk 1,000 crore in damages. A general diary was also filed in Manikganj in this regard on Friday.
