The High Court yesterday granted ad-interim bail for six months to Saidul Sikdar Sakur, an accused of the sensational case filed for killing Mahmuda Khanam Mitu, wife of former superintendent of police (SP) Babul Akter, clearing the way for his walking out of jail.

The court also issued a rule asking the government to explain why Saidul should not be granted regular bail in this case.

The bench of Justice M Enayetur Rahim and Justice Shahidul Karim delivered the order and the rule following a petition filed by Saidul seeking bail.

Saidul's lawyer  Cumar Debul Dey told The Daily Star that there is no legal bar for his client's release from jail following the HC order.

On June 5 last year, Mahmuda Khanam Mitu was stabbed and shot dead at GEC intersection in Chittagong city while she was walking her son to the school bus stop near their home.
