The overcrowded Dhaka is yet to get back to its normalcy with a small number of people returning to the city yesterday following Eid celebration.

However, a good number of people thronged the amusement parks, museums, resorts, parks and zoo.

Kazi Nazrul Islam Avenue, Motijheel, Gulistan, Gulshan Avenue and Mirpur Road -- the busy streets in the capital remained empty and seats of most of the buses were found empty.

The secretariat was almost vacant as many officers and staff were on leave though high-ups joined their respective offices.

Most of the ministers did not join their offices. A very lean number of visitors was seen at the visitor's waiting rooms which usually remain cramped with guests.

“I wish we always had a vacation when the city streets remain free from chaos,” said Shoyeb, a high school student.

He was visiting the national museum at Shahbagh with his friends.

“No traffic congestion and no frequent honking. It seems like a dream. I can make as much trip as I can,” said Hasan Mia, a rickshaw-puller at Motijheel.

However, in a festive mood, many rickshaw-pullers and CNG-run auto-rickshaw drivers charged high fares.

“Most of the people have gone home and we don't get many passengers during the Eid vacation. So, we have no option but to charge a bit higher,” said Hamed Ali, one of the drivers.

The people living on city streets were also seen passing times in leisure rather than scavenging in dustbins or begging at traffic signals. Street children were seen gossiping. Most of the food shops remained closed at noon, while most of the city markets stayed shut. There were poor supply of vegetables and fish at the kitchen markets. As a result, many people, especially bachelors, who stayed in Dhaka on different purposes, suffered.

Traffic police were seen having a comfortable time, as the low traffic flow did not require much effort to control vehicles.
