Deputy Commissioner (DC) Shamsul Arefin of Chittagong yesterday said the river Halda should be highlighted for its uniqueness.

The DC came up with the opinion at a meeting of Chittagong District Development Coordinated Committee at Circuit House in Chittagong city.

Most of the rivers in the country originated from the neighbouring countries but only Halda originated from Ramgar in Chittagong and ended in the city, said the DC.

Halda is the only natural breeding ground of the carp fishes in the country, said the DC, adding, highlighting its uniqueness will help uphold the heritage of Chittagong.

Officials of government and autonomous organisations, chairmen of upazila parishads were also present.
