20 women honoured as Joyeetas in Sylhet

Twenty grass-roots level women were selected as Joyeeta, a Bangla word for victorious woman, for their feats under five categories in Sylhet division yesterday.

Of them, five have been selected as divisional level awardees for their extraordinary achievements in the categories. They will move to the national level where they will compete with Joyeetas of other divisions.

Nurun Nahar Baby was selected for economic success, Farida Yasmin for education and employment, Daisy Talukder for success as a mother, Jannatun Nahar for prevention of repression on women, and Samita Begum Meera for social development.

Divisional Commissioner of Sylhet Jamal Uddin Ahmed, who chaired the reception programme, handed over crests to the Joyeetas in Kabi Nazrul auditorium in Rikabi Bazar of Sylhet city.

The Sylhet divisional administration organised the programme in association with the Ministry of Women and Children Affairs and the Directorate of Women Affairs in Sylhet. State Secretary at the ministry Nasima Begum addressed the ceremony through a video conference as chief guest while former Sylhet City Corporation mayor Badar Uddin Ahmed Kamran spoke as special guest.

Deputy Commissioners Joynal Abedin, Sheikh Rafiqul Islam, Kamrul Hasan and Sabina Alam respectively of Sylhet, Sunamganj, Moulvibazar and Habiganj were present at the event.

The programme is conducted under an initiative of the government, Joyeeta Onneshone Bangladesh, which was introduced in 2009.
