A Dhaka court yesterday appointed a lawyer who will sit with Sonali Bank Limited officials and 11 defaulters, directors of Dandy Dyeing Limited, to amicably realise Tk 45.49 crore.
The 11 are BNP Senior Vice Chairman Tarique Rahman, his younger brother Arafat Rahman Koko, Tarique's close friend Giasuddin Al Mamun, BNP Chairperson Khaleda Zia's sister-in-law Nasrin Iskander, Nasrin's children Shams Iskander, Shafin Iskander and Sumaiya Iskander and four others.
Judge Md Rabiuzzaman of Artharin Adalat-1 also asked the lawyer, Advocate Abdus Salam, to submit a report by November 27 on how to solve the matter amicably.
On October 16, 2001, the company borrowed Tk 12.16 crore which in default, including the interest, amounted to Tk 45.49 crore, says the case the bank filed against the 11 on October 2, 2012.
Afterwards, only Mamun, his wife and three others complied with the court's order asking the 11 to appear before it and reply to its notices.
