The dawn-to-dusk hartal (shutdown) called by the BNP is progressing peacefully in Rangpur district today.

No incident of violence was reported till 11:40am, says our Rangpur correspondent.

The main opposition called the shutdown to protest today's visit of Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina at her Pirganj constituency (Rangpur-6) in the district as part of the electioneering for the January 5 national polls.

The inter-district buses remain stay off the highways, fearing vandalism.

Rickshaws and three-wheeler auto-rickshaws were however seen plying on the roads as usual.

The schools, colleges and offices are operating as per normal schedule.
