Youth dies as covered van falls on him

A youth died after a covered van fell on him at Inland Container Depot at Kamalapur Railway Station in the capital yesterday.
Merajul, 22, helper of the covered van, was resting beside the vehicle.
The covered van standing very close to the rail tracks was hit by a train, said Assistant Sub-Inspector Sirajul Islam of Dhaka Railway Police Station.
He was rushed to Dhaka Medical College Hospital where doctors declared him dead.

 

 

CCC ward councillor sent to jail

A Chittagong court yesterday sent Jamaat-e-Islami leader Md Shamsuzzaman Helali, also councillor of Sholakbahar ward of the port city, to jail.
Shamsuzzaman is an accused in several cases filed for vandalism, arson attack and creating anarchy in the area following the war crimes trials, said Rezaul Masud, additional deputy commissioner.
He was arrested around 9:45am yesterday on a road before Raoshan Boarding in Muradpur area.

 

 

Body of man found in capital

Police recovered the body of a man, aged around 60, from Dhanmondi Lake near Road No-8 in the capital yesterday morning.
The body, clad in a red and white checked shirt, was too decomposed to identify, said Dhanmondi police.
The body was sent to Dhaka Medical College morgue for an autopsy.

 

 

Rezanur new envoy to Iraq

The government has decided to appoint Maj Gen Rezanur Rahman Khan as the next ambassador of Bangladesh to Iraq.
Rezanur, psc was commissioned in the corps of Infantry, Bangladesh Army on December 27, 1981, said a Foreign Ministry press release yesterday.
In his long career, he served as the general officer commanding in 55 Infantry Division, area commander of Logistic Area, besides holding many other important positions.

 

 

BFUW honours female leaders today

Bangladesh Federation of University Women (BFUW), a women's organisation, has organised a function to honour four female leaders for their outstanding contribution to the empowerment of women in Bangladesh.
The function will be held today at 3:30pm at University Women's Federation College on Road-6 in the capital's Dhanmondi.

A woman died as the train she was in ran her over at Natherpotua Rail Station in Monoharganj upazila in Comilla yesterday
The deceased was Sanowara Begum, 50, wife of Abdur Rahim of Kachigram village.
Laksam Government Railway police said Sanowara lost her balance when the Dhaka-bound Upukul Express started rolling and she fell from its door.

 

 

Orientation programme of hill tracks students assoc held

Chittagong Hill Tracks Students Association Dhaka unit yesterday organised an orientation programme at TSC auditorium of Dhaka University for the fresher students who enrolled at several educational institutions in the capital.
The students should continue to work for establishing the rights of their indigenous communities as they are deprived of it, said adivasi leader Jyotirindra Bodhipriya Larma alias Santu Larma, as chief guest.
DU Pro-vice Chancellor Sahed Akther Hossain also spoke on the occasion.
