MAYASIR ON EID
Maheen Khan's Mayasir is one of the leading fashion houses in Bangladesh. Promoting traditional Bangladeshi designs through local artisans has always been Mayasir's focus. The tasteful combination of colour and traditional embellishment leads to countless stunning results that have given Mayasir its own signature look.
This Eid, Mayasir will focus on comfort. “Women want versatile single pieces nowadays,” explains Maheen Khan. “So I have included pieces in my women's line that can be worn with anything, and can transition from informal to formal. We are trying to become very contemporary, but as our comfort level is very strong when it comes to traditional wear, I have combined the two as best as I could.” Single tunics that boast a mixture of both sombre and bright colours feature hand embroideries, block prints and screen prints on fine cotton. The cuts used are fusion-inspired but also incorporate the essence of global trends.
Mayasir's colour palette this season includes turquoise, black, tangerine, yellow and other bright colours, with white as the glue that binds all the pieces together.
Saris are available in chiffon, muslin, endi, handloom jamdani and Tangail cotton. Mayasir is also introducing ombre saris this season in Balaka silk.
Ladies can accessorise to their hearts' content in Mayasir's popular silver and semi precious stone jewellery collection. There are also new, experimental jewellery pieces made with fabrics, crochet, shells, wood, mother of pearl and beads. Party bags and sandals can also be mixed and matched, with beading, metal work and jewels used in their design.
For the men, Mayasir hosts traditional kurtas using modern fabrics such as woven khadi. As men are also embracing brighter colours, kurtas come in a rainbow of colours for men as well. The traditional white panjabi is always present, however, with different textures and subtle detailing on very simple but fine quality fabrics.
Unlike most large fashion houses in Dhaka, Mayasir takes great care in its children's line as well. Maheen Khan feels that the extra effort that Mayasir makes for children's clothing is worth it, because children are the ones who bring out the spirit of the festive season. Comfortable and colourful cotton fabrics have been handcrafted with as much ardent attention as any adult outfit.
