The Detective Branch of police has arrested a Kushtia schoolteacher who persuaded schoolgirls to have sexual relations with him.
He was arrested in the capital's Mohammadpur area on Saturday, said Md Raihanul Islam, assistant commissioner of DB (north).
Helal Uddin Panna, an assistant teacher of Adrasha High School in Kushtia town, reportedly used to have sex with schoolgirls who came to his house for private tuition, said DB officials.
Panna along with his associates used to capture the illicit acts with hidden video cameras and used the footage to demand money from families of the schoolgirls by threatening to release those on the internet and on mobile phones, said Monirul Islam, joint commissioner of Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP), at a press briefing in the DMP Media Centre yesterday.
Panna and the video clips seized from him will be handed over to Kushtia Police Station, said Monirul. During primary interrogation, Panna confessed to his crimes, he added.
On July 8, police arrested one accused, Engineer Hasanuzzamn, in Bagerhat, while last Thursday they arrested Monirul Islam Mono, activist of Kushtia Jubo League unit, in Jessore in this connection.
The other accused are: Alimuzzaman Tutul, deputy chief executive engineer of Islamic University, Dulal Hossain, assistant engineer of LGED in Jessore, and Shariful Islam Sajal, assistant engineer of Gangni upazila LGED.
