HC orders action against Hefajat men

The High Court Sunday ordered police to take legal action against the torturer of a female journalist of Ekushey Television during a April 6 rally of Hefajat-e Islam in the capital.

The court also ordered the government to admit ETV staff reporter Nadia Sharmin to a government hospital and arrange necessary treatment keeping her in a cabin at the government cost.

An HC bench of Justice Quazi Reza-Ul Hoque and Justice ABM Altaf Hossain ordered the health secretary and the director general of health services to form a medical board for her treatment.

The government was asked to send her abroad for treatment if the board advices so.

The HC ordered transfer of a case filed in connection with torture on Nadia to Detective Branch from police.

The court issued the orders following the writ petition filed Sunday by Manzill Murshid, counsel for Human Rights and Peace for Bangladesh.
