A musical evening featuring iconic Gono Sangeet artiste Fakir Alamgir was held on May 3 at the Indira Gandhi Cultural Centre (IGCC), High Commission of India, in Gulshan, Dhaka, according to a press release.
Among Alamgir's presentations were: “Daam Diye Kinechi Bangla”,
“Shunecho Ki Savar-er Khobor,” “Shadher Lau”, “Mon Amar Dehoghori” and more. The final number was “Naam Tar Chhilo John Henry”.
Alamgir's accompanists were Gazi Abdul Hakim (flute), Nasir (lead guitar), Mashuk Alamgir (acoustic guitar), Alamgir (backing vocals), Rony (tabla) and Shubroto (octopad).
Fakir Alamgir blends traditional folk music with western instruments. He has released several popular albums with foot-tapping numbers like “O Sakhina”, “Shantahar” etc.
Alamgir has successfully fused 'modernism' into the tradition of Gono Sangeet. His landmark songs include in the “Sokhina” series that depicts the struggle between the “haves” and the “have nots” through a romantic relationship between the singer and a village girl.
