Fake note den busted in capital, 3 held

Detectives arrested three members of a gang, who are involved in making and spreading counterfeit money, along with fake notes worth Tk 25 lakh at Paltan in the capital on Monday.
The detainees are Ibrahim Khaled, 35, Nargis Akter, 27 and Sharmin Akter, 20.
A team of Detective Branch (DB) of police arrested Khaled around 9:00pm Monday in Paltan area with counterfeit notes worth Tk 2 lakh, Monirul Islam, DB joint commissioner, said in a press briefing Tuesday.
Acting on information given by Khaled, the team led by Additional Deputy Commissioner Moshiur Rahman later raided their factory at Kalyanpur and detained Nargis and Sharmin.
Law enforcers also confiscated fake notes worth 23 lakh, papers with Bangladesh Bank monogram, security strings, four printers, 3,000 colour cartridges, watermarks and five printing boards from the factory, he further said.
The criminals involved in the business of fake currencies intensified their activities targeting the upcoming Eid with an aim to circulate notes worth over Tk 1.5 crore, the DB official said.
