Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) today detained two Bangladeshi youths in front of the Tetulia Border Outpost (BOP) in Panchagarh's Tetulia upazila this afternoon for entering the country illegally from India.

The detainees are Farukh Hossain, 20, of Zianagar village, and Rabbi Hossain, 21, of Dakkhin Raiso village in Haziganj upazila of Chandpur district.

Lt Col Monirul Islam, commanding officer of Panchagarh-18 BGB Battalion, said BGB members from Tetulia BOP followed the duo after they crossed into Bangladesh from India near Border Pillar No 443/5-S, via the Mahananda river.

They were detained in front of the BOP and later handed over to Tetulia police.

During primary interrogation, the youths said they had gone to Kolkata several months ago to work as masons. They fled the city and returned to Bangladesh after Indian police intensified crackdown against undocumented workers.

The process of handing them over to their families is underway, said Tetulia UNO Afroz Shaheen Qhosru.
