Community health clinics for every 6000 people to be set up

Health and Family Welfare Minister Sheikh Fazlul Karim Selim yesterday said as part of the government plan to reach medicare facilities to the door steps of common people, community health clinics will be set up covering every 6,000 people across the country, reports BSS.

Making a statement on a private member's resolution moved by Treasury Bench member Mohammad Waji Uddin Khan (Pabna-3) proposing for setting up an eye ward at Chatmohar Thana Sadar Hospital, the minister said process for establishing 6,000 such community clinics were underway during the current fiscal.

Sheikh Selim said 13,000 community clinics would be established by the year 2002 having common facilities of medicare.

Referring to establishment of eye ward at thana level hospitals, the health minister said eye ward with specialists were now available in the medical college hospitals and some of district level hospitals. Steps are being taken to establish eye wards at the district level hospitals, he informed the House.

Sheikh Selim in this context assured the member that with the availability of fund and trained physicians, eye wards would be established at the thana level hospitals in future. He requested the member to withdraw the resolution.

The member concerned withdrew the resolution which was approved by the House by voice vote.

Earlier, eight members belonging to the Treasury Bench and Jatiya Party led by Anwar Hossain Manju moved amendments to the resolution. Those who moved the amendments included Haji Mohammad Selim (Dhaka-8). Shamsur Rahman Serif (Pabna-4), Shaheen Monwara Hoq (Woman Seat-7), Shahjahan Khan (Madaripur-2), Aleya Afroj (Woman Seat-10), Abdul Latif Mirza (Sirajganj-4), Srimoti Bharati Nandi Sarkar (Woman Seat-11) and Jinat Hossain (Woman Seat-9).
