Chittagong Metropolitan Police yesterday gave assistance to the family of police constable Abdul Quayum, who was killed in muggers' attack on November 3.
CMP Commissioner Shafiqul Islam handed over a cheque for Tk 2 lakh to Abu Yusuf, father of Quayum, at CMP Headquarters.
Two CMP additional commissioners, AKM Shahidur Rahman and Banaj Kumar Majumder, were also present on the occasion.
Posted at the residence of the deputy inspector general of police (Chittagong range) atop Chittagong city's Batali Hill, Quayum and three other constables – Shahabuddin, 20, Ariful Islam, 22, and Salahuddin – were coming down to have tea around 10:00am on November 3.
On off duty, the members of the Range Reserve Force of police in Chittagong had plainclothes on and were not carrying firearms.
As per the victims, the sudden sight of two pedestrians being mugged by two miscreants triggered a reflex in their young souls to protect and serve the innocent and prevent the crime.
