The Bangladesh Jatri Kalyan Samity today urged the government to revise the upcoming Eid-ul-Azha holiday schedule to reduce travel-related suffering for holidaymakers.

At a press conference held at the Dhaka Reporters Unity, the platform proposed that June 3 and 4 be declared holidays instead of June 12 and 13.

This adjustment, they argued, would ease the pressure on the country's transport system ahead of the Eid rush.

Mozammel Hoque Chowdhury, secretary general of the organisation, said the government has announced a 10-day Eid vacation starting on June 5, with Eid likely to fall on June 6 or 7.

"In this arrangement, people will receive only one or two days' leave before Eid, putting enormous pressure on the transport sector. To prevent widespread suffering, we are urging the government to reschedule the leave, allocating more days before Eid," he said.
