Rail communication between Dhaka and Chattogram, Sylhet, Noakhali, and Khulna was disrupted today after two trains derailed on those tracks.

Train movement between Dhaka and the eastern regions of Chattogram, Sylhet, and Noakhali came to a halt last night after a container train derailed near the outer area of Brahmanbaria Railway Station.

The incident took place around 10:45pm near the Poiratola rail crossing in Brahmanbaria municipality, said Shakir Jahan, assistant station master of Brahmanbaria Railway Station.

Shakir said train 603 UP, an outbound container train from Chattogram heading towards Dhaka, went off the tracks in the station's outer area.

"One of the derailed coaches toppled onto the adjacent down line," he said. As a result, both up and down lines were blocked, effectively halting train movement between Dhaka and the southeastern districts.

Efforts to restore the rail line were underway till the filing of the report at 11:30pm, though no casualties had been reported immediately following the derailment.

Meanwhile, Dhaka-Khulna rail services were suspended as the Khulna-bound Jahanabad Express engine and a coach derailed in Faridpur.

The incident took place near Bamunkanda of Bhanga upazila around 9:30pm.

Confriming the incident Maruf Hossain, pointsman at Bhanga Railway Station, said shortly after the train left Bhanga Railway Junction the train derailed but no casualties or injuries were reported.

Maruf added that the train departed from Kamalapur Railway Station in Dhaka around 8:00pm and was scheduled to reach Khulna at 11:40pm.

Sub-inspector Khairuzzaman Sikder, in-charge at Bhanga Railway Junction, said rail communication on the route was suspended following the derailment.

A rescue train from Pakshi was on its way to salvage the derailed coaches and restore operations on the line.
