Rail communication from Dhaka to the eastern regions of Chattogram and Sylhet was restored this morning following two back-to-back train derailments at the same location near Brahmanbaria Railway Station.

Shakir Jahan, Assistant Station Master of Brahmanbaria Railway Station, confirmed that the restoration came around 8:15am today after the recovery of the derailed coaches.

According to the railway official, around 10:15pm yesterday, a Dhaka-bound container train from Chattogram derailed near the Poiratola rail crossing, just outside Brahmanbaria Railway Station. One of its coaches veered off the track, halting train operations on both the up and down tracks and severing Dhaka's rail link with Chattogram, Sylhet, and Noakhali.

Relief trains from Akhaura and Dhaka worked for seven hours to remove the derailed coach. Train services of the routes resumed at 4:55am today, he said.

However, shortly after services resumed, as the Turna Nishitha train passed through the station and the Cox's Bazar Express was slowly approaching the station entrance, a wheel of its last coach derailed at 5:58am, triggering panic among passengers, Shakir Jahan said.

Fortunately, no major injuries were reported, he said.

Due to the derailments, several trains were stranded at various stations – the Dhaka-bound Mahanagar Express at Narsingdi's Daulatkandi Station, Sylhet-bound the Upaban Express at Methikanda Station, and the Bijoy Express from Mymensingh to Chattogram at Sararchar Station in Kishoreganj.
