Nahid warns of fresh march to Dhaka unless AL is banned

National Citizen Party Convener Nahid Islam warned this evening that students and people would "march once again" to Dhaka from across the country, unless the government banned the Awami League.
On August 5 last year, students and people staged a similar march to the capital demanding the ouster of AL fascist government, ultimately leading to the regime's collapse.
At the same time, the Shahbagh blockade movement would continue, Nahid said in a post on his verified Facebook account.
"All the forces behind last year's anti-fascist uprising will stay united on the question of banning AL and the country's sovereignty," reads Nahid's Facebook post.
Earlier, Sarjis Alam, chief organiser (north) of NCP, claimed all the political forces, except BNP, have joined the Shahbagh blockade to press home the demand of banning AL at the earliest.
"The unity of July [uprising] will be reestablished if BNP joins," wrote Sarjis.
Earlier, around 5:00pm, around a thousand people gathered at Shahbagh in the capital after Hasnat Abdullah, chief organiser (south) of the National Citizen Party, announced a blockade at the Shahbagh intersection demanding a ban on AL.
He made this announcement from a stage set up at the entrance of Minto Road this afternoon.
A rally demanding a ban on the AL began around 2:00pm today near the Chief Adviser's official residence. Around 4:30pm, the rally, led by Hasnat Abdullah, began to move towards Shahbhagh.
