SI and Ansar member injured while attempting to arrest accused in Gazipur

Two persons, including a sub-inspector of Kapasia Police Station and an Ansar member, were seriously injured while trying to arrest an accused in Kapasia upazila of Gazipur early today.

The injured are SI Monirul Islam, 50, and Moniruzzaman, 46, a special Ansar member, police said.

Confirming the incident, Kapasia Police Station's Officer-in-charge (OC) Joynal Abedin Mondal said that an accused, Md Al Amin, attacked them during an operation conducted to arrest him. Legal action will be taken on charges of obstructing duties and assaulting police personnel, he added.

Several persons were detained in connection with the attack, and a case was filed, the OC said.

Sohel Rana, a physician at the Kapasia Upazila Health Complex, said that both men received eight stitches each due to their injuries on the head.

Injured SI Monirul told The Daily Star that a team of police personnel and special Ansar members went to Syedpur village from Miyar Bazar in the upazila to arrest Al amin, who is an accused of a case. He was located in that village during the drive, conducted around 1:00am.

He also said, "At that time, Al amin and his men attacked us. At one point, they hit us on our heads."

SI Monirul's wife Ria Hossain, a sub-inspector of the same police station, told The Daily Star, "We are taking him to Dhaka from Kapasia Upazila Health Complex."
