Protesters have staged demonstrations in Savar and Munshiganj, demanding a ban on the Awami League (AL).

In Savar, local leaders and activists of the National Citizen Party (NCP), the Students Against Discrimination (SAD) movement, and other groups gathered at Pakija Mor on the Dhaka-Aricha highway around 3:00pm today.

They chanted slogans and vowed to continue their protest until their demands are met.

Protesters had also blockaded the same highway intermittently from 9pm to midnight yesterday.

Savar Model Police Station Officer-in-Charge (OC) Jewel Mia told The Daily Star that the protestors have not blocked the highway yet today and traffic remained normal.

In Munshiganj, under the banner of "Chhatra Janata Mawa Point", protesters launched a programme titled Padma Bridge Blockade at noon on the Louhajang end of the bridge.

Their demands included a ban on the "genocidal organisation" AL, punishment for "all killers" during the during the July Uprising, and the implementation of the July Charter.

Traffic was halted for around five minutes before the protesters held a brief march and sit-in on the expressway. The demonstration concluded around 12:40pm.

Padma Bridge North Police Station OC Zakir Hossain said some 50 to 60 people took part in the protest.

"No untoward incidents were reported and traffic remained unaffected," he added.
