A man was killed after being run over by a train in Mymensingh city's Patgudam area this morning.

The victim was identified as Md Idris Ali, 57, hailing from Mirapara village in Trishal upazila.

He had been living at his sister's house in the Duldul Camp area of Patgudam for the past year and earned a living by pulling a rickshaw, said Md Akter Hossain, officer-in-charge of the Government Railway Police in Mymensingh.

Idris had suffered a stroke and had been struggling with mental distress, he said.

Quoting locals, Akter said that around 11:00am, as the Jamalpur-bound commuter train from Dhaka neared the Patgudam area, Idris reportedly placed his head on the tracks and died on the spot.

Police recovered the body and sent it to Mymensingh Medical College Hospital for a post-mortem examination.

Legal procedures are under way, the OC added.
