Mahfuz Alam warns against mob culture

Mahfuz Alam, special assistant to the chief adviser to the interim government, has warned against the dangers of mob culture, urging for stability and unity in the country.
In a statement posted on his verified Facebook account last night, he said, "Those who identify themselves as 'Tawhidi Janata,' I did not threaten you, I warned you."
"Why? After enduring 15 years of repression and playing a role in the uprising, you, like all citizens, have created a national opportunity. But mob culture is tarnishing it. It is your responsibility to safeguard this opportunity," he added.
Mahfuz emphasised that he harbours no hatred towards any group, saying "I have no hatred towards you.. I have compassion for you. I respect the scholars. As a devout Muslim myself, I believe in Tawhid, but if someone exhibits extremism in the name of Tawhid, it is my duty as a fellow citizen and responsible individual to warn about its consequences," he said.
"Bangladesh needs stability now. Revolutionary people and fragmented mobs are two different things. Our enemies are benefiting from this aimless and purposeless mob culture. To protect the integrity, security, and order of the state, we must be firm."
"This warning is for criminals who are oppressing and creating chaos in the name of Tawhid. However, the way ordinary Muslims were once persecuted due to Islamophobia—including myself—will never be repeated."
He further noted the hardships faced by Islamic scholars and madrasa students over the past 15 years,
"They have shed blood in this uprising. But if wisdom is not demonstrated in protecting the hard-fought freedom, further oppression will follow. If issuing this warning is wrong, then I have nothing more to say."
"Lastly, personal attacks, targeting individual beliefs, creating doubts, threatening or dishonouring family members—such acts should be abandoned by all who claim to follow the Prophet. Let us move beyond division and hatred to build a nation that belongs to all..."
