The six-member search committee for the formation of the next Election Commission will be headed by Justice Obaidul Hassan of the Appellate Division of the Supreme Court.

The Cabinet division issued a gazette notification in this regard today, unveiling the names of the search committee members.

The other members are Justice SM Kuddus Zaman of the High Court Division of Supreme Court; Muslim Chowdhury, auditor general of Bangladesh; Md Sohorab Hossain, chairman, Bangladesh Public Service Commission; former election commissioner Muhammed Sohul Hussain and writer Prof Anwara Syed Haq.

In his reaction after the search committee was unveiled,  Sohul Hussain told The Daily Star, "This is very important task for me. I am grateful to the president. If the proper person is not selected as election commissioner then the whole electoral system will be at stake."

He said he will talk with other colleagues of the search committee to find a way to move forward.
