Don’t hand over new container terminal to foreign company: Ctg Jamaat Ameer

Bangladesh Jamaat-e-Islami's city unit chief Shahjahan Chowdhury has urged the interim government not to hand over the New Mooring Container Terminal (NCT) of Chattogram Port to any foreign company.
Speaking at a roundtable organised by the party at the Bangladesh Islamic Academy auditorium today, the former MP also called for the termination of the existing local operator, claiming it had been "appointed by the fascist regime".
He demanded that the terminal be operated solely by the port authority, using its own capacity.
The remarks come as the interim government is in progress to appoint global port giant DP World of the UAE to equip and operate NCT.
At a recent meeting with business and political leaders, Chowdhury Ashik Mahmud Bin Harun, executive chairman of the Bangladesh Investment Development Authority (Bida), said the government was considering leading global port operators to improve efficiency and optimise limited port capacity.
Shahjahan clarified that Jamaat was not against foreign investment but urged the government to eliminate corruption from the port and ensure that its management serves national interests and protects workers' rights.
