'Current government must resign'

Demand journalist leaders

Journalist leaders have called for the government's resignation following the killing of four journalists across the country during the quota reform protests.

"The government has no right to remain in power. They have killed four journalists. On behalf of the journalist community, we express no confidence in the government," said Bangladesh Federal Union of Journalists President Ruhul Amin Gazi at a protest rally this afternoon.

The rally was organised in front of the Jatiya Press Club by a faction of Bangladesh Federal Union of Journalists and Dhaka Union of Journalists.

Kader Gani Chowdhury, secretary general of Bangladesh Federal Union of Journalists, said, "The government has become isolated from the people today. Even their own party members are not speaking in their support."

"We do not seek justice from the current government. We want its departure. We urge police to return to their stations and let the people take responsibility for the country's security," said Shahidul Islam, president of the Dhaka Union of Journalists.

Abdul Hai Shikder, former president of the Dhaka Union of Journalists, echoed him, adding, "Justice will be served in the people's court."

Kamal Uddin Sabuj, former president of the press club, said, "Those who are killing the people of the country today are worse than the Pakistanis."
