Court orders travel ban on former additional IGP over corruption allegation

A Dhaka court yesterday issued a travel ban on former additional inspector general of police Mohammad Ali Mia in connection with corruption allegations.
Judge Md Zakir Hossain of Dhaka Metropolitan Senior Special Judge's Court passed the order after ACC Assistant Director Md Sajid-ur-Roman, who is leading the inquiry team, submitted an application in this regard.
In the application, the ACC official said Mohammad Ali Mia, also former chief of the Criminal Investigation Department, amassed a huge amount of wealth in his name and the names of his family members through illegal means and corruption.
"The ACC official came to know that the former police official was trying to flee the country. If he flees, inquiry into the allegations brought against him might be hampered. So, an order is needed to prevent him from doing so" said the ACC in his application.
The judge also directed the ACC to send a copy of the order to the additional inspector general of special branch (SB), Malibagh of Dhaka for next course of action.
Meanwhile, the same court yesterday issued a travel ban on Prof Dr Abu Yusuf Md Abdullah, chairman, board of directors of Northern University, his wife Halima Sultana Zinia, their son Saad Al Zabir Abdullah, and their daughters Labiba Abdullah and Mosammat Habibun Nahar over graft allegations brought against them.
The order came following an application submitted by the ACC in this regard.
