Court orders ACC to freeze bank accounts of ex-agro minister Razzaque, family

A Dhaka court today ordered Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) to freeze nine bank accounts of former agriculture minister Mohammad Abdur Razzaque, his wife Shirin Akter Banu and their daughter Farjana Akter Tandra over corruption allegations brought against them.
The former lawmaker from Tangail-1 and his wife and their daughter deposited Tk 13,908,096 in these accounts.
Judge Md Zakir Hossain of Dhaka Metropolitan Senior Special Judge's Court passed the order after ACC Assistant Director Md Abdul Malek, also the inquiry team leader, submitted an application.
In the application, the ACC official said Razzaque and others amassed a huge amount of wealth through corruption and illegal means.
"The ACC official came to know from credible sources that Razzaque and others were attempting to transfer the money elsewhere. If they do so, inquiry into the allegations brought against them might be hampered. So, an order is needed to prevent them," said the ACC in his application.
Police arrested Razzaque from Dhaka's Eskaton area on October 14 last year.
