Workers at Beximco Industrial Park are protesting on Dhaka-Tangail highway in Gazipur city's Kashimpur area for the 5th consecutive day demanding unpaid salaries of October.

The workers blocked the Chakraborty intersection at 7:00am today, Sub-Inspector of Gazipur Industrial Police Rafiqul Islam told The Daily Star.

Traffic movement through the alternative routes is normal, the police official said.

"We are protesting for the fifth day today. We have not received any assurance from the authorities yet," the protesters said.

They said they will continue the protest until their salaries are paid. They will not return home until they get the money.

However, many media personnel reported that they were not allowed to stay on the spot.

Savar Highway Police Officer-in-Charge Saugat ul Alam also confirmed the protest on the highway.

According to the industrial police, there are 41,000 people working in Beximco Industrial Park's garment and ceramic factories.

Yesterday, thousands of workers blocked the Chandra-Nabinagar road from 8:00am to 7:30pm demanding the arrears.

Although the workers lifted the blockade at night, they blocked the road again this morning.

The industrial police are trying to control the situation through negotiation with the workers.

Attempts to contact the Beximco Industrial Park authorities to get their comment over the phone were unsuccessful.
