Army promises review of ex-members’ appeals; urges patience, discipline

Bangladesh Army has reaffirmed its commitment to reviewing appeals submitted by former members regarding disciplinary actions and urged all concerned to maintain patience, discipline, and refrain from any negative conduct.

In a statement issued today, the Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR) said the army's proud legacy has been built on long-standing professionalism, tireless dedication, and strict discipline.

"Unquestioned loyalty, integrity, and sacrifice of every member of this force are the foundation of its current success. Military discipline is the core strength of a professional army," the statement read, adding that the Army Act provides for appropriate rewards and punishments in order to uphold that discipline.

The ISPR statement noted that several former army personnel have recently submitted appeals requesting reconsideration of punitive decisions against them.

"These appeals have been received with utmost importance by Army Headquarters. Taking into account humanitarian and administrative considerations, a high-level board has already been formed to review these appeals. The board is actively working on the matter," according to the ISPR statement.

So far, a total of 802 appeals have been received, the ISPR said.

Of these, 106 have been forwarded to the relevant records for final resolution, while the remaining 696 are currently undergoing evaluation.

"The process will take time, but the army is working with utmost sincerity and responsibility," the statement read.

It further emphasised that the contributions of all members of the armed forces in safeguarding the country's sovereignty, security, and stability are undeniable and gratefully remembered by the nation.

"The government and Bangladesh Army remain deeply respectful of the dignity, honour, and legitimate claims of former members and are committed to taking positive steps in this regard."

The army believes that mutual respect, compassion, and adherence to due process are the key to resolving any issue peacefully.

All concerned have been urged to refrain from any form of negative activities and to uphold patience, discipline, and tolerance under all circumstances, the statement added.
