3 Jubo Dal leaders sued over Pahela Baishakh attack in Netrokona

A case has been filed against three Jubo Dal leaders under the Speedy Trial Act for disrupting Pahela Baishakh celebrations organised by the Atpara Upazila administration in Netrokona.
The case was lodged today by Motahar Hossain, an administrative officer at the office of the Upazila Nirbahi Officer (UNO).
Atpara Police Station Officer-in-Charge (OC) Mohammad Ashrafuzzaman confirmed the matter.
According to the case, Noor Mohammad Khan Farid, member secretary of the Upazila Jubo Dal, has been named as the prime accused, along with Joint Conveners Motassir Hossain alias Kaiyum and Kamal Mia. Additionally, 10–12 unidentified individuals were also named as accused.
Several Jubo Dal leaders had allegedly disrupted a Pahela Baishakh celebration organised by the Atpara upazila administration yesterday, reacting to a rumoured mention of "Bangabandhu Chattar" on the event banner.
The incident occurred around 12:30pm at the Upazila Mukta Mancha, where officials, including the UNO, were reportedly harassed and student performers forced off stage.
According to eyewitnesses, a group of Jubo Dal leaders including Noor Mohammad Khan Farid, Motassir Hossain alias Kaiyum, and Kamal Mia, along with activists from Swechchhasebak Dal and Chhatra Dal, demanded the programme be halted, claiming the banner referenced Bangabandhu Chattar. They allegedly tore down the banner, removed performers, and assaulted the host.
UNO Ruel Sangma said he was publicly defamed and officials were harassed despite clarifying that the current banner bore no such mention. The image in question, shared on Facebook, was later found to be from the previous year.
When contacted yesterday, Noor Mohammad Khan Farid said, "Someone sent me a photo of a banner showing 'Bangabandhu Chattar.' I also saw a similar post on Facebook. We went to inquire about it. Our members tore down the banner. Later, when it was confirmed the current banner did not include the name, we admitted our mistake and apologised to the UNO. The claim that we harassed anyone is false."
