AL candidates Shamim, Enamul get permission to contest election

Ruling Awami League nominated candidates Shamim Haque and Enamul Haque Babul, have gotten permission today from the Supreme Court to contest the January 7 upcoming national election.
The Chamber Judge of the Appellate Division of the SC Justice M Enayetur Rahim this afternoon stayed the HC orders that upheld the Election Commission's decisions which cancelled the nomination papers of Shamim Haque and Enamul Haque Babul on the grounds of them having dual citizenships.
The apex court chamber judge also ordered the EC to allow them to contest the elections.
Justice Enayetur Rahim passed the orders following two separate petitions filed by Shamim and Enamul challenging the HC orders that upheld the cancellation of the nomination papers.
There is no legal bar for Shamim and Enamul from contesting elections from Faridpur-3 and Jashore-4 constituencies respectively following the apex court chamber judge's orders, their lawyer Shah Monjurul Hoque told The Daily Star.
