Renowned physicist Prof Md Abul Hossain has been appointed as the Vice-Chancellor (VC) of Gono Bishwabidyalay.

He had been serving as the acting VC of the university before his appointment.

President Abdul Hamid, who is also the chancellor of the university, appointed Prof Abul Hossain for the next four years in a circular issued on April 11, 2023.

The notification was signed by Farhad Hossain, deputy secretary of the Secondary and Higher Education Division, Private University-1.

Prof Abul Hossain started his teaching career at the Physics department in JU in 1982. He has served in various important positions, including head of the department, dean, syndicate member, senate member, and Teachers' Association president. He also served as JU Pro-Vice-Chancellor from 2014 to 2018.

In December 2021, he was appointed as the Pro-Vice-Chancellor of Gono Bishwabidyalay and has been serving as the acting Vice-Chancellor of the university since February 2022.
