Prof Maksud Kamal set to become next VC of Dhaka University

Prof Dr ASM Maksud Kamal is going to be appointed as the 29th vice-chancellor of Dhaka University as current VC Prof Md Akhtaruzzaman's tenure will expire on November 2.
Several sources at DU have confirmed the matter to The Daily Star.
Prof Kamal of the Disaster Science and Management department has been appointed as the pro-VC (academic) of the university in 2020.
Talking to The Daily Star, Prof Akhtaruzzaman said, "It is a normal procedure that a new VC will take charge after the current's tenure expires."
Nizamul Hoque Bhuiyan, president of the Dhaka University Teachers' Association (Duta), said, "We have confirmed from many sources that Prof Maksud Kamal is going to be appointed as the next VC. The Prime Minister's Office and the education ministry sources have confirmed this."
"Now we are waiting for an official notification in this regard," he added.
Contacted, DU Registrar Probir Kumar Sarkar said, "We have received such news. But we are yet to get any official notification."
Apart from these, multiple teachers and officials from the university -- even the pro-VC's office -- said they already knew that Prof Kamal was going to be appointed as the next VC as all the procedures had already been completed.
Prof Kamal, elected dean of the Earth and Environmental Sciences Faculty in 2012, was elected president of the Duta four consecutive times.
He was also the convener of Blue Panel, an Awami League-backed teacher organisation at the university. He was a member of the senate and syndicate of the University. He was also the provost of Surja Sen Hall for two terms.
Apart from this, he is the president of Federation of Bangladesh University Teachers' Association.
