Police detained a top listed criminal Sazzad Hossain, alias Choto Sazzad, from Bashundhara City Shopping Complex in Dhaka last night.

Confirming the matter, Tejgaon Police Station Officer-in-Charge Md Mobarak Hossain told The Daily Star, "Public first spotted Choto Sazzad when he was roaming around with his wife in the shopping mall and later caught him and informed police. On-duty police team nearby detained him and brought him to the police station."

Sazzad is a top-listed criminal of the Baizid Bostami area and its adjacent areas.

Years ago he was an associate of then-top Shibir cadre, Sazzad Hossain, who is now abroad. With the blessings of senior Sazzad, Choto Sazzad ran a reign of terror in the Baizid Bostami area.

There are at least 15 cases filed against him over murder, possession of arms, extortion, and other criminal charges. Sazzad was arrested by Chandgaon police in 2023 for possession of firearms, but he was later released on bail and resumed extortion and other criminal activities.

CMP declares bounty to arrest listed criminal ‘Choto Sazzad’

On December 4, he managed to evade arrest by opening fire when police raided a flat to arrest him in Baizid Bostami's Oxygen area. Two people were shot during the incident.

Chattogram Metropolitan Police had declared a bounty for his arrest.
