Savar AL leader dies in jail

Abdur Razzak (60), the forest and environment affairs secretary of Savar Municipality Awami League, accused in the July-August murder case, has died in Dhaka Central Jail.
On Thursday (February 13), around 5 pm, the prison guards brought him to Dhaka Medical College Hospital in an unconscious state and the doctors declared him dead.
According to prison sources, Abdur Razzak hails from Majidpur village, Savar, Dhaka. He was accused in the murder case at Savar Police Station.
Confirming the death, Md. Faruk, in-charge of Dhaka Medical College Hospital police outpost said prison guards brought Abdur Razzak to the hospital from Keraniganj Central Jail and doctors declared him dead. The body has been kept at the Dhaka Medical College Morgue for autopsy.
Abdur Razzak's elder son Saidul Islam Sagar told The Daily Star, "My father was accused in 4 cases including murder and attempted murder in July-August."
Saidul said his father had been framed in the cases. "My father was arrested by Savar police on October 5." He said that Razzak was sent back to prison after a few days in police remand.
"This evening, at around 7:30pm, we were informed by phone from the prison that my father had died at Dhaka Medical College. When I reached Dhaka Medical College and spoke to the doctors, I learned that my father had been brought to the hospital dead."
Saidul also said, "My father did not participate in the movement. There is no video footage, no one can show the video footage of his participation in the movement. Still, he was accused in the murder case."
He said that the prison guards had not informed the family that Razzak was sick. "My father's body is in the morgue," he said adding that the morgue had been locked and everyone had left. "We have been told to come tomorrow to take my father's body."
