Miscreants stole a hundred-year-old black stone idol and gold ornaments from a temple in Harirampur upazila of Manikganj early today.

The incident happened at Sri Sri Radharaman Jiur temple in Balara village under Balara union, said Muhammad Mumin Khan, officer-in-charge (OC) of Harirampur Police Station.

Temple priest Mahadev Chakraborty said, "I was awake inside the temple until 1:00am today (Wednesday). while opening the temple in the morning, I saw idols were left scattered. The miscreants broke the lock of the left door of the temple and took away a silver nupur, three gold tips and a pair of kharams and a hundred-year-old black stone idol."Temple employee Gopal Saha said, "The incident occurred at a time when the temple's CCTV cameras had been sent for repairs."

This is the first such theft incident at the pilgrimage site, he added.

Legal action will be taken after an investigation, said OC Mumin.
