Man dies being pushed off moving bus, allegedly by helper; locals torch bus

A man died after being allegedly pushed off a moving bus by the helper in Dhaka's Jatrabari area this evening (October 15, 2022).
The deceased was identified as Abu Sayem Murad (35), a buying house employee in Dhaka.
"Several locals said he [Murad] was pushed off the moving bus ... Some others including bus passengers said Murad was run over when he tried to get off the bus … We are investigating the matter," Inspector (Investigation) Sikder Mohitul Alam of Jatrabari Police Station told The Daily Star.
The incident took place around 6:00pm at Shaheed Faruk Sarak.
With critical injuries, Murad was rushed to Dhaka Medical College Hospital (DMCH) where doctors declared him dead at 7:00pm, Ashraful Islam, a sub-inspector of the police station, said.
Enraged by the incident, locals set the bus on fire and beat up bus driver, Shah Alam, and helper Mohon and handed them over to police, he said.
Ershad Hossain, duty officer of the Fire Service Control Room, said two fire fighting units doused the fire around 6:30pm. None were injured in the fire.
Abu Sadat Sayed, elder brother of the victim, said his brother boarded the bus at Motijheel area to return to Jatrabari house.
The bus employees beat him up and pushed him off, leaving him dead, he claimed.
Injured bus helper Mohon, who is being treated at DMCH, claimed he had an argument with a passenger over bus fare and Murad was speaking in favour of the passenger, leading to a scuffle between them.
As the bus reached its destination, Murad hurriedly tried to get off the bus and was run over, he claimed.
