Krishak Dal leader shot, hacked to death in Jashore

A local leader of Jatiyatabadai Krishak Dal was shot and hacked to death by unidentified criminals in Jashore's Abhaynagar upazila this evening.

The deceased, Tariqul Islam, 50, of Dhopadi village, was the president of the Krishak Dal's Noapara municipality unit.

The incident took place around 6:30pm at Dahar Moshiakathi village in the same upazila, said Abdul Alim, officer-in-charge of Abhaynagar Police Station.

Tariqul's brother Rabiul Islam said, "My brother used to run a fish enclosure business. He was called out and then brutally killed with bullets and sharp weapons."

Enraged locals set fire to four houses in Dahar Moshiakathi village following the murder.

Abdul Alim, officer-in-charge of Abhaynagar Police Station, confirmed the incident, saying, "Tariqul Islam has been killed in an attack by armed miscreants. On information, police went to the scene and began investigating the matter. Several teams have been deployed to identify and arrest those involved."

Additional police personnel have been deployed in the area to avert any untoward situation, said the OC.
