A police probe body has found authenticity in the allegation that a policeman harassed a female teacher of Tejgaon College for wearing "teep" on April 2.

A police official close to the probe committee today said it found that constable Nazmul Tareque broke the rules that day, drove his motorcycle on the wrong side and provided "false information" to his senior officials after the incident.

The official, however, declined to divulge further details of the probe report.

On the day of the incident, the teacher, Lata Samaddar, filed a general diary with Sher-e-Bangla Nagar Police Station saying a policeman harassed and verbally abused her after seeing a teep on her forehead while she was going to the college campus.

Contacted, Snehashish Kumar Das, an assistant commissioner of Dhaka Metropolitan Police and a member of the investigation committee, said they submitted its report to the DMP Commissioner's office on Thursday night.

He also refused to share details.

DMP Commissioner Shafiqul Islam today said he is yet to get the copy of the report.

The probe body, formed on Monday and comprising additional deputy commissioner of protection unit and assistant commissioner of Tejgaon division of DMP, was asked to submit the report within three working days.

The incident caused public outrage, with men and women posting photos of themselves wearing teep on social media as a form of protest.

Dhaka Metropolitan Police on Monday suspended Nazmul, who had been working with the protection division of DMP.

DMP took the move hours after its Tejgaon division identified the constable from CCTV footage and intelligence information.
