Engineer stabbed to death in Jatrabari

A diploma engineer was stabbed to death in Dhaka's Jatrabari this evening.

The deceased, Minhajul Islam, 25, was employed at a software company after graduating with in civil engineering from a private polytechnic institute, said his family and friends.

The incident took place in front of Donia College around 6:30pm, Faruk Ahmed, officer-in-charge of Jatrabari Police Station.

Critically injured Minhajul was rescued and taken to Dhaka Medical College Hospital where doctors declared him dead at 7:45pm, the OC said.

Minhajul's friend Shamim, who rescued him, said Minhaj was affiliated with the BNP politics and lived in Tushardhara near Saddam Market.

This evening, several individuals, including son of a local Awami League leader and a member of the Chhatra League, attacked Minhajul and stabbed him indiscriminately, he said.

The victim's friends and family think that the murder was a result of political rivalry but the police are yet to mention the reasons behind the murder.

He was the youngest of three brothers and one sister. Minhajul was married, and his wife is expecting, Shamim added.

Md Farouk, in-charge of DMCH police outpost, said the body has been kept at the morgue for autopsy.
