Ten members of a notorious gang, known as "Hitlu Babu gang", were detained with illegal firearms and ammunition during a special anti-crime drive conducted by Bangladesh Army early today in the capital's Matikata area.

According to a press release issued by the Inter Services Public Relations (ISPR), the operation was carried out by 86 Independent Signal Brigade from the Bhashantek Army Camp starting at 2:00am. During the raid, three automatic pistols, one revolver, 28 rounds of bullets, and various equipment were recovered.

The ISPR release said the gang had been under surveillance for a long time based on intelligence. Acting on specific information, the operation was launched, and around 5:00am, the gang members attempted to attack the patrolling team in an effort to escape.

In response, the army personnel fired "warning black shots" to bring the situation under control. The gang members failed to flee and were apprehended by the patrol team, the press release said.

The Bangladesh Army reaffirmed its commitment to public safety and maintaining law and order. Citizens are urged to report any criminal activity to the nearest army camp or law enforcement agency, the release added.
